Washington D.C. In-Home Maternity Session | Three Reasons Why Every Expecting Mother Should Get Maternity Photos

Maternity photography is such a beautiful way to document a special moment in time for a family. This in-home lifestyle maternity session holds an extra special place in my heart. I first met this expecting mom over 20 years ago!! I was an undergraduate student at University of Maryland, College Park with her older sister. I would get to see her every time her sister went home and a group of us tagged along for the visit, and to raid her parents’ always well stocked pantry! Fast forward to a decade and half later, she would meet her soul mate and future husband at University of Maryland, College Park. First came love, then came marriage, then came a house and now it’s time for a baby carriage! I cannot believe how time has flown by. That little girl has transformed into a gorgeous young woman that is expecting her first baby. A family of two is about to become a family of three! I was so excited to have the amazing privilege of capturing this time in their lives. They are going to be incredible parents.

I remember when I was waiting for my son to arrive. My husband and I were excited but also nervous of what was to come. In the whirlwind of preparing to be parents, one thing that was important to us was that we documented this special time in our lives. This is why I am so passionate about capturing special moments for the families I get to work with.  I love capturing the emotions, the little details and the memories that in the future will make them laugh, cry or both.

I encourage every expecting mother to document their pregnancy, either by hiring a professional photographer or by taking pictures on their own. No matter how you do it, here are three reasons why every expecting mother should get maternity photos:

1. Maternity photography documents the moment right before things change

When you’re an expecting mother, you are at the verge of a major life change. Whether it’s your first child or your fourth, once the new baby arrives, life will never be the same. Your family will now have an additional little person in it. You’ll become a new mother or a mother of an additional child. If you already have a child, that child will become an older sibling. Your overall family dynamic will just be different. A maternity session will capture this special moment in time, a time when your family was at the beginning of a new journey.

2. Maternity photography celebrates motherhood

An expecting mother is growing a human being!! You may not feel or think that you look your best, but that’s not what is important. A maternity session can help you celebrate the strength of a woman and your ability to bring life into this world.

3. Pregnancy photos are a gift for your child

Mothers are pretty bad about being in pictures. We are usually the designated family photographer and if not, a lot of us get out of being photographed because we don’t like how we look. But remember, pictures will be around when we are gone. Wouldn’t it be great if your children have pictures of you from the very beginning of THEIR journey? If you are not up to getting photographs for yourself, know that if you do get them, your children will love having them and will always cherish them.

I would love to work with you and your family, to capture precious moments in time. If you are interested in a lifestyle maternity session, contact me today!
