3 Reasons Why Photo Albums are Important

Photo albums have always been fascinating to me. I’ve always been fascinated with the process of their creation. It makes me think of some of the oldest albums I have and how they were created.

I have an early memory of one of the very first professional photographers I ever encountered. I was turning three years old and my mom planned a party with lots of friends and family. She hired a family photographer to document the event. I remember being really shy and not liking all the attention. It didn’t help that the photographer seemed to appear out of nowhere and was pointing a small black box at me. Luckily by the end of the party, I had warmed up to him and he captured some great smiles and candid moments. Decades later, I love flipping through my old family photo album, re-living a memory from when I was just 3 years old!! And now I get to share those images with my son who will, be three in a few months.

This is why I think it’s important to make sure that photo albums are part of your photography experience. Whether the photo album is one that you make, or is one that is customized for your by a professional; it’s so important to make sure that you have photo albums. Photo albums preserve those special moments and memories, not only for you, but for your children and future generations to come. Here are three reasons why photo albums are so important.

1. A photo album brings your images to life

You did your research, found a photographer you love, booked a session and got your family together for a session. During your session you have a great time, have some laughs and make new memories. You love your digital images and you smile every time you look at them. But why leave those images buried on your computer? A photo album is a great way to bring your images to life. Think about the feeling you get when you curl up on a couch with your photo album and your loved ones to flip through the album together. It’s a very different feeling from going through them on your computer or swiping through them on your phone. A photo album is an effortless way to re-live your memories. It brings your family together again, every time you look through it together.

2. Digital files can get lost over time

Modern technology has made it so much easier to have thousands of images on your devices. Digital images are easy to email, share online, and print when you find the time. The problem is with time, those files get buried in folders on your device. You may or may not have a back-up for your files when something goes wrong, like if your hard-drive fails or you lose your phone. You may also have good intentions to make an album when you have time, but all of a sudden it’s years after the fact and you never got to it. So many people don’t have images of important milestones because they never got around to printing the images. While its easy to access your images at the moment, years down the road, they may be impossible to find and not so easily accessible. By having an album created at the time of your session, you ensure that you have preserved your memories in a way that can be shared for a lifetime and beyond.

3. Photo albums preserve your family legacy

When you have a photo album that you love, know that it will be a special gift to give your children. They will re-live moments that have long faded away. They will look at memories from before their lifetime but are meaningful to their family history. You can share stories from special events and momentous occasions that may have otherwise been long forgotten. And you can do that together, with something that is tangible that brings your family together time and time again. Photo albums help to preserve your family legacy and are a perfect gift for your children and future generations to come.
