The birth of a baby is such a magical moment. Whether it’s your first baby or fourth, its such a special time in any family’s journey. As a Maryland Newborn Photographer, I love working with families to document all the emotions - the laughter, the crying, the love and all the details of the baby. Every newborn photography session is always unique to each family. As I’ve worked with different families, there’s always a set of images that become family favorites. Here are eight favorite newborn photographs:

1. Baby Alone

There is something so magical about a little baby. Such a tiny being takes up so much room in your heart. Each session always includes plenty of pictures of your baby alone. I make sure to take pictures from all angles to capture all the details of your baby from your baby’s eyes, toes, fingers, hands and all the teeny tiny details that we all love so much.  

2. Baby in the crib

Pictures of your baby in the crib are always so adorable. In those early days your baby will look so small in their crib! But it’s always great to get photographs of the baby either in a crib or or bassinet. Simple crib shots are a great way to show off the details of your baby and the nursery and this images are always a family favorite.

3. Documenting baby’s size

Newborns are so cute, so sweet and so tiny! Those tiny little details need to be documented before they aren’t so tiny anymore. The transformation that happens to a newborn is so quick. One day everyone will appreciate looking back at images from the newborn days, when baby was still so teeny tiny!

4. Baby cradled in mom’s arms

There is nothing quite like the bond between a mother and her baby. Mom and baby will spend thousands of hours together and moms just love being able to document that special bond. Newborn images where you can feel the love for her child coming through always end up being cherished by everyone.

5. Baby cradled in dad’s arms

There is always so much focus on mom and baby, but you can’t forget the bond between father and child. There is something truly special about how fragile and small a baby looks in his/her father's strong arms. Couple that strength with capturing a sweet and tender moment between father and baby, and you have a priceless newborn image that everyone will appreciate.

6. Sibling shots

If this is not a first baby, it is also an important time for the sibling(s). All of a sudden, there is a new little person in their home. It's so sweet to capture the beginning of a life-long bond between siblings. Families love having images with just the kids.

7. Nursing or bottle feeding photos

Feeding the baby is something you will spend countless hours doing. Whether a baby is breastfed or bottle fed, documenting how you provide nourishment to your baby will always be a special picture.  

8. Family picture

There is nothing better than a picture of the whole family together during a newborn session. A new tiny person is now part of your life and documenting that moment in a family’s chapter is always a family favorite.
